Scott Stowe, a Beaufort County banker known for his involvement in philanthropic and community groups, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon.
Stowe, 43, spent more than two decades working for Wachovia, first in Charlotte, N.C., and most recently in Beaufort as market president. He moved to Beaufort in 1998 and served in leadership roles for several community groups.
"He believed so strongly in giving back," said Clarece Walker, president and chief executive officer of United Way of the Lowcountry. "It is a tremendous loss for all of us that knew him and loved him so much."
At the time of his death, Stowe served as board chairman for the local United Way chapter. He previously chaired the Beaufort Memorial Hospital Foundation board and was also involved with his congregation, First Presbyterian Church in Beaufort.
