A Sun City Hilton Head resident reported his pickup truck was stolen after he gave his keys to a drug dealer from Savannah named "Bear," according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office incident report.
The 43-year-old man said he had purchased narcotics from Bear a few weeks ago but was unable to pay for them. Bear told him he could pay for the drugs later, the report said.
On Saturday, Bear called the man to collect the money. The man, who said he "feared his life was in jeopardy" because he didn't have the cash, told the drug dealer he couldn't pay. Bear said he would keep the man's 2011 Toyota Tacoma until he came up with the cash.
The man picked up Bear in Savannah and brought him to the intersection of U.S. 278 and S.C. 170, where he left the dealer with the keys, the report said.
