The Beaufort County Sheriffâ€™s Office is investigating the armed robbery Monday night of a Ladyâ€™s Island convenience store.
At about midnight, a clerk at the Circle K on Sea Island Parkway told deputies that a black man armed with a rifle and wearing a black scarf over his face demanded money from the registerThe clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, which the suspect stuffed into a plastic bag, according to a Sheriffâ€™s Office news release.
No injuries were reported.
A witness told authorities a second black man, also armed with a rifle, waited near a Chrysler Sebring, and both suspects left in it driving toward Sams Point Road.
Deputies chased the Sebring toward Brickyard Point Road, where it ran off the road into a grassy area, the Sheriffâ€™s Office said.
Both men ran, jumped a fence and disappeared into a wooded area.
Two rifles were recovered from the car, and investigators are trying to identify the suspects.
