Social Security Administration offices will begin closing to the public 30 minutes earlier starting Aug. 15 because of federal budget cuts, according to the agency.
Hours for the Beaufort office will be 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at 646 Robert Smalls Parkway.
"While agency employees will continue to work their regular hours, this shorter public window will allow them to complete face-to-face service with the visiting public without incurring the cost of overtime," the administration said.
Most Social Security services do not require a visit to an office, the agency said. Services can be conducted at www.socialsecurity.gov or by calling 1-800-772-1213. People who are hearing-impaired can call a TTY number at 1-800-325-0778.
