Woman freed from car after accident on U.S. 278

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to rescue a woman from her vehicle Wednesday afternoon after another vehicle side-swiped it at about 4:30 p.m., according to Capt. Randy Hunter of the Bluffton Township Fire District.

Hunter said the woman was "lightly entrapped" and couldn't open the car door to get out after the collision.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah with minor injuries, Hunter said.

Both vehicles were in the median on U.S. 278 near Dairy Queen. The accident shut down turn lanes near Plantation Business Park. Emergency responders were on scene for about an hour, Hunter said.
