Beaufort and Jasper counties could again see and smell smoke today from wildfires in Georgia and the Carolinas, according to a news release from the state Department of Health and Environmental Control.
Smoke from these fires can irritate the eyes and respiratory system, and worsen chronic heart and lung diseases, the release said.
DHEC recommends people with respiratory-health issues limit time outdoors to avoid the smoke, keep windows and doors closed, and run an air conditioner with the fresh-air intake closed and with a clean filter to prevent outdoor smoke from getting inside.
