- The Lowcountry Heat will try to reach the American Legion baseball state tournament for the second consecutive year as they open the postseason at Camden on Tuesday for Game 1 of a best-of-five series.
The Heat finished off the regular season in style Saturday with a 20-4 victory against Summerville to clinch the third seed from League 1. They finished 8-8 in league play a year after winning the championship and riding a hot streak to the state tournament for the first time in program history.
A team must win two series to advance to the state tournament.
"It starts with pitching and defense -- that's playoff baseball," Heat coach Chris Wells said. "We're going to have to find different ways to win ballgames. We have to play a clean ballgame, and that will give us a chance to win."
