A Lady's Island woman told authorities she was raped Tuesday afternoon by a man who followed her inside her Sunrise Bluff home as she returned from work.
The man physically and sexually assaulted her before running away in an unknown direction, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.
Sgt. Robin McIntosh, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, said it is unclear whether the man was waiting to assault the woman when she arrived home at about 2:30 p.m.
"He was not in the house when she got home but would have to have been close by, as he entered almost immediately after she did," McIntosh said.

The attacker was described as a dark-skinned black man in his mid- to late-20s, about 6 feet tall and 150 pounds. His head was shaved, and he wore a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
He has a small scar, possibly caused by chicken pox, under his right eye and what appears to be a recent, inch-long pink scar running vertically on his right forearm near his elbow.
