Man, 76, assaulted, robbed in his home

A 76-year-old man told authorities he was sitting in the kitchen of his BonAire Estates home early Wednesday when two men came in through his front door, demanded his wallet and hit him repeatedly with a collapsible baton.

After stealing an undisclosed amount of cash, they ran from the house on Winsor Road, near Beaufort, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.

The incident occurred at about 2 a.m., according to the release.

The victim was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where he refused additional treatment.

Investigators discovered nearby Ron's Barbershop on Parris Island Gateway also had been burglarized, and they believe the crimes are connected, the release said. A small amount of cash, mostly change, was reported stolen from the barbershop.

The robbery victim was unable to describe the attackers, except that one might have been white and the other black.
