CAVE schedules youth event

June 27, 2011 07:46 PM

Citizens Against Violence Everywhere has scheduled its third youth and family community event, Stars in the Making, and the public is invited.

The free event will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 9 at Whale Branch Early College High School. Free coffee and doughnuts will be provided at 8:30 a.m. A free lunch also will be served.

CAVE's founder and president, Beaufort County Councilman Herb Glaze, said the group hopes to show young people they can achieve their dreams through education. He has invited professional athletes, business people, health care specialists, law enforcement representatives, government officials and other community leaders to talk to young people to inspire them to succeed in school.

"It can be very effective to expose our youth to the powerful influence of positive role models and mentors," Glaze said in a news release. "Our children need to realize that the accomplished people they will meet during this event were once just like them."
