Body of missing Sun City man found; no foul play suspected

The body of a Sun City Hilton Head man missing since Thursday night was found Saturday afternoon in a wooded area near Sun City, Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls said late Saturday night.

The body of 63-year-old Angelo Begonja was recovered just after 3 p.m., Sauls said. No foul play is suspected and the body has been sent to the Medical University of South Carolina for an autopsy, Sauls said.

Begonja was last seen at 6:30 p.m. Thursday by his wife, Maxine, at their 472 Mystic Point Drive home when he left to go to a neighbor's house and never arrived, according to a Sun City news release.

The search for Begonja has involved multiple law enforcement agencies. On Saturday, Hardeeville police officers used Beaufort County Sheriff's Office canines to search the woods near the gated community.

S.C. Law Enforcement Division helicopters searched for Begonja on Friday, along with deputies from sheriff's offices in Beaufort and Jasper counties and Sun City security.
