Three locals move on in Women's Match Play at Sanctuary

Three local players advanced easily in the first round of the Women's S.C. Golf Association's Match Play Championship on Wednesday at Sanctuary Golf Club at Cat Island.

No. 2 seed Minami Levonowich of Hilton Head Island and No. 6 seed Samantha Buchanan of Bluffton turned in the day's most dominant performances, needing just 12 holes to clinch their victories. No. 5 seed Brandi Hammonds of Bluffton also moved on with ease, winning her match in 14 holes.

Top seed Dawn Woodard of Greenville also advanced with ease, as did most of the top seeds. Only one upset was recorded -- No. 13 seed Lea Anne Brown beat No. 4 Claire Brown in the only match of the day that went all 18 holes.

Play continues with the second and third rounds today, setting up Friday's championship match.
