USCB student killed in wreck

A University of South Carolina Beaufort student was killed Friday night in a wreck in Columbia County, Ga.

Morgan Renew, 18, a native of Barnwell County, Ga., and who had been living in Bluffton, died at Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta of blunt impact injuries after she was ejected from a 2006 Ford Explorer after a collision with a 1992 Jeep Cherokee, according to a report in The (Columbia County) News-Times.

The wreck sent 12 other people to the hospital; as of Saturday night, only five were still being treated.

Charges are pending against Kristine Heath, 35, the driver of the Explorer. Officials say Heath failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled out in front of the Jeep. The Jeep hit Health's SUV, causing it to overturn.

Funeral services for Renew will be held at 7 p.m. today at Barnwell First Baptist Church.
