Burton residents held at gunpoint during burglary

Two residents of Burton's Lemon Lane came home to a burglary in progress just after midnight Thursday, and the two suspects held them at gunpoint and demanded cash, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.

Investigators are searching for the two black males, one armed with a shotgun and the other a pistol. They fled after the residents handed over an undisclosed amount of cash. No further description of the suspects is available, Sgt. Robin McIntosh said.

There was no sign of forced entry, and the burglars likely broke in through an unlocked door, according to the release.

Anyone with information should call Sgt. J. Gobel at 843-255-3421 or the dispatch center at 843-524-2777.
