Several Flag Day ceremonies are planned in Beaufort County today.
The Exchange Club of Beaufort, the Disabled American Veterans and the Burton Fire District will host a flag retirement ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at the fire station at 36 Burton Hill Road in Beaufort. The Sun City Hilton Head Veterans Association will hold a flag-burning ceremony to dispose of old flags at 10 a.m. at the pavilion near Sun City's Magnolia Hall parking lot, according to a Bluffton Township Fire District new release. A flag also will be presented to the fire district in honor of emergency personnel who responded to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the release said.
American Legion Post 185 of Hilton Head Island will conduct a traditional Flag Day ceremony at 2 p.m. at the Shelter Cove Veterans Memorial.
Hilton Head Island Elks Lodge No. 2773 will host a flag retirement ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the lodge at 173 Marshland Road. Flags may be dropped off in the designated container in front of the building. Details: Andy Davison, 843-422-8256.
