17 graduate from Beaufort Academy

The 17 students of Beaufort Academy's Class of 2011 graduated Saturday in the school's gym.

Total amount of scholarship money earned by the graduates: $1.3 million.

Speakers: Brig. Gen. Frederick Padilla, commanding general of Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.

Valedictorian: Lily Westergaard plans to study political science and history at Georgetown University.

Salutatorian: Peter Olsson plans to study international relations at American University.

From the board president: "The Class of 2011 embraced the core values of Beaufort Academy -- intellect, respect, integrity, leadership and pride. The students demonstrated these values during the interim session by participating in real-world experiences, challenging themselves academically, while contributing to the community through internships and service projects." -- Herb Gray, president of the Beaufort Academy board of trustees
