An eight-month-old Hardeeville boy with what appears to be chemical burns continues to be treated at the Augusta Burn Center while his parents are being held at the Jasper County Detention Center.

Henry Schiller, 42, and Chasity Clevenger, 35, were arrested and charged Thursday with unlawful conduct after Clevenger called 911 because the baby was having trouble breathing, according to Capt. Arthur Middleton of the Hardeeville Police Department.

Responders saw what they believed to be signs of abuse. The parents were charged with unlawful conduct, but those charges could be upgraded to child abuse or child neglect once the burn center releases its report, Middleton said.

The baby "is doing fine" and will be released to the Department of Social Services after treatment, he said.
