Hilton Head No. 1 Public Service District and the Town of Hilton Head Island received a $160,000 state grant to install energy-saving equipment at the district's reclaimed water plant on Oak Park Drive.
The money was awarded through the State Office of Local Government's Water & Sewer Energy Efficiency program, according to a news release. The district and town jointly applied for the grant.
The equipment will lower energy usage in wastewater treatment by about 20 percent a year and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by 194 tons of carbon-dioxide equivalents a year, the release said.
