Drivers can dial 511 for real-time traffic information on all South Carolina interstate highways and some coastal highways, including limited coverage of S.C. 170, U.S. 278 and U.S. 21.
The system can advise drivers on construction, lane closures, crashes, congestion and severe weather, according to the S.C. Department of Transportation. Users also can go to www.511SC.org to set up personalized alerts that will notify them of traffic information by phone call, text message or email.
The service is free, although cellphone or text-messaging charges may apply.
