Firefighters from the Burton Fire District battled a brush fire and responded to a one-car crash Wednesday, according to a department news release.
Firefighters responded to the fire at about 12:30 a.m. in woods near Kato Lane. It took more than three hours to extinguish because of dry conditions and the area's topography, according to district spokesman Dan Byrne.
At about 2 p.m., firefighters and paramedics from Beaufort County EMS were called to the intersection of Joe Frazier Road and Broad River Boulevard after a one-car accident. Crews found the driver of a Ford Mustang GT had run off the road and struck a tree and fence, Byrne said.
