Separate crashes send pedestrian, bicyclist to hospital

Separate crashes Friday sent a pedestrian and a bicyclist to Beaufort Memorial Hospital with injuries, according to the Burton Fire District.

The first occurred at about 2 p.m. when a female pedestrian was struck by a car in front of the T.J. Maxx department store on Robert Smalls Parkway, district spokesman Dan Byrne said.

The second crash happened minutes later on Trask Parkway near Parker Drive, where a bicyclist was hit by a car. The accident slowed traffic in the southbound lane of Trask Parkway for about 20 minutes while emergency crews assisted the injured and removed road hazards, Byrne said.
