Crime reports: Shot reported amid crowd at community center

A man told deputies he heard a gunshot Sunday night after he saw a man "stomped and kicked" by two others at the Grays Hill Community Center, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.

When deputies arrived at 7:25 p.m., there were "several hundred people still standing around" and nearly 100 cars, the report states. About two dozen people were uncooperative when the officers asked if they had seen anything.

After the area had been checked, a man approached officers and said he saw a black male, age 20 to 25, get chased, pushed to the ground and assaulted by two other black males, one of whom had a pistol, the report states.

He said he heard a shot but couldn't see where it came from, and the three men ran away, according to the report.

Officers could not locate a bullet casing, nor did area emergency rooms have any knowledge of a shooting victim who might have been involved in the incident.
