A 30-year-old Hilton Head Island man was charged with attempted murder after shooting at his former roommate Friday night, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Hector Azabay-Alvarez was charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center's jail log.
Alvarez's roommate told deputies that the two were arguing over money at the Alvarez's home on Julia Drive when Alvarez pulled a .22-caliber rifle and fired two shots, said Capt. Allen Horton, Sheriff's Office spokesman.
Neither round struck the victim who sustained a minor laceration on his hand while battling Alvarez for the rifle after the shots were fired, Horton said.
Alvarez was being held Saturday at the detention center awaiting a bond hearing, according to the jail log.
Horton said the agency's investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
