Massage center to open on Lady's Island

A new massage therapy center coming to Lady's Island plans to dispense with the traditional spa-like atmosphere and focus simply on massage -- a strategy it says will help keep its prices low.

Escape Massage Center, founded by massage therapist Jeff Scott, is set to open June 7 at 12 Fairfield Road in the Sam's Point Office Park, across from the New Point neighborhood.

Scott opened his first Escape Massage Center in 2008 in Marlboro, Mass. He also has locations in Holden, Mass., and Clinton, Mass., according to a news release.

After vacationing on Hilton Head Island with his wife, he decided to open a center in South Carolina.

The center is not a spa and will not sell retail items, according to the release.

The center will offer an introductory one-hour massage for $40. Memberships programs are available.

Escape Massage Center will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 4 and 5, and a grand opening week June 7-11.

Those wishing to attend the open house are asked to email

Other business openings, closings and changes in the area:

  • New lanes leading to and from a new bridge spanning the Beaufort River will not open until the bridge is complete, according to Rob McFee, director of Beaufort County's Engineering and Infrastructure Division.
  • The new bridge and widening of Lady's Island Drive are part of several projects funded through a temporary penny sales tax that voters approved in 2006.

The bridge and roadway work is still months from completion, said McFee, who did not have an expected opening date.
