TCL graduation to air on County Channel

The Beaufort County Channel will rebroadcast the Technical College of the Lowcountry's 2011 commencement ceremony at 8 p.m. today. A broadcast of the health sciences pinning and recognition ceremony will follow at 9:30 p.m.

The graduation was May 13 at the All-Weather Training Facility at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. Gen. Arthur Brown, a retired four-star general and chairman of the college's commission, delivered the commencement address.

The County Channel is a service of Beaufort County government. It is broadcast on Charter Cable Channel 20, Comcast Cable Channel 2, Hargray Cable channels 9 and 252, Time Warner Cable Hilton Head Island Channel 66 and Time Warner Cable Sun City Channel 63. The public is invited to join the Savannah Crop Mob as the volunteer group works at the Brant Family Farm near Gillisonville in Jasper County from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Brants sell their organic produce at farmers markets on Hilton Head Island and in Bluffton, Habersham and the town of Port Royal. The group, which started in March, will help the Brants weed, string supports for growing vegetables and harvest blueberries and potatoes.

Jasper County Farmers' Market opens today

The Jasper County Farmers' Market will open for the 2011 season from 1 to 6 p.m. today at 9935 Jacob Smart Blvd. in Ridgeland.

Prospective food vendors should check with the S.C. Department of Health & Environmental Control at 843-726-7792 before selling at the market. The vendor fee is $5 per session.

The season will continue through November.

Triathlon to delay traffic on Hilton Head

Drivers on southern Hilton Head Island on Saturday will likely experience traffic delays for a triathlon.

The race will affect traffic from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Pope Avenue, Cordillo Parkway and South Forest Beach Drive, including Coligny Circle.

One lane will be closed to traffic, with remaining traffic following a one-way loop south on Cordillo Parkway, north on South Forest Beach and west on Pope Avenue, according to a news release from race organizers.
