Man robbed at gunpoint at Beaufort motel

A 66-year-old man says he was robbed by three masked men in the parking lot of the Howard Johnson motel on Trask Parkway early Tuesday, according to a Beaufort Police Department news release.

The victim told police, who responded at about 12:50 a.m., that three black men wearing dark clothing and masks approached holding handguns. One took the man's wallet and rummaged through his vehicle, while the others held him at gunpoint, according to the release. They then ran toward a nearby bus station. The victim was unharmed.

A Beaufort County sheriff's canine team searched for the suspects. It found the victim's wallet, but cash was missing from it, and the suspects were not located.
