A St. Helena Island man was arrested Thursday on strong-armed robbery and kidnapping charges after investigators say he jumped into a stranger's car last year in a parking lot on Lady's Island and demanded the driver take him to St. Helena.

On July 14, Jamie Bernard Holmes, 31, jumped into a 16-year-old male's parked car at the McDonald's restaurant on Lady's Island, according to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sgt. Robin McIntosh.

The victim told investigators that Holmes appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and repeatedly threatened him as they traveled to a home on Seaside Road, McIntosh said.

McIntosh said Holmes stole some change from the vehicle's center console before getting out of the car. No injuries were reported.

Holmes was being held Thursday at the Beaufort County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
