A 52-year-old Beaufort man died Sunday after the motorcycle he was driving ran into a sport utility vehicle that had slowed for traffic on Sams Point Road, according the Beaufort County Coroner's Office.
Russell Summers was traveling west on Sams Point Road on Lady's Island at about 1:15 p.m. when he rear-ended a 2005 Volvo SUV, according to a report from the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Summers was not wearing a helmet, according to the report. He was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital and later flown to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he died, according to the Coroner's Office.
The driver and a passenger in the sport utility vehicle, both of whom were wearing seat belts, were not injured, according to the report.
The incident is still being investigated by the Highway Patrol.
