Two male teens were arrested Tuesday after they tried to flee the scene of several vehicle break-ins on a moped, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.
At about 11:30 p.m., a resident of Hilton Head Island's Victoria Square neighborhood called 911 to report two men breaking into his car. The resident confronted the two, and they rode away on a moped, according to the release. A deputy stopped them moments later on Marshland Road.
The pair -- ages 17 and 18 and residents of Hilton Head and Bluffton, respectively -- were charged with simple possession of marijuana after deputies found a small amount of marijuana in their pockets. Charges of breaking into a motor vehicle and theft are pending, the release said.
The two allegedly stole cash and small electronics from unlocked vehicles in the neighborhood. Deputies recovered the items from the teens and are working to identify the stolen property, the release said.
