Library to hold immigration forum

A National Issues Forum on "The New Challenges of American Immigration: What Should We Do?" will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bluffton library.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Bluffton Branch Library, the program is open to the public. The moderators are Dr. Harold Gortner, professor emeritus at George Mason University, and Dennis Adams, information services coordinator for the Beaufort County Library System.

Register at the reference desk in the Bluffton library to reserve a spot. Participants will be expected to read issues guides. The program and all materials are free.

League to hold annual luncheon

The League of Women Voters of Hilton Head Island/Bluffton Area will hold its annual luncheon at 11:30 a.m. May 11 at the Port Royal Golf Club in Port Royal Plantation on Hilton Head Island.

Weston Newton, chairman of Beaufort County Council, will be the guest speaker.

The cost is $26 a person. Reservations must be received by Wednesday.

TCL summer registration continues

Registration for summer classes at the Technical College of the Lowcountry ends May 12.

The 10-week term begins May 23 and ends Aug. 5. Some courses run seven weeks and begin June 13.

Qualified high school students in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties may take TCL's summer courses to receive college credit through TCL's Early College Credit Opportunities program.

County Channel to replay USCB graduation

The Beaufort County Channel will rebroadcast the University of South Carolina Beaufort's commencement ceremony at 8 p.m. Friday and at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

The 272 students who graduated last week included the first class to earn four-year bachelor's degrees in nursing, as well as the first batch of students from the Saturday Business Degree program and the first group of studio-art students. Karen Hughes, a public relations executive who was a close aide to former President George W. Bush, delivered the commencement address.

The County Channel is broadcast on Charter Cable Channel 20, Comcast Cable Channel 2, Hargray Cable Channels 9 and 252, Time Warner Cable Hilton Head Island Channel 66 and Time Warner Cable Sun City Channel 63.
