Fire district to hold emergency-preparedness event

The Bluffton Township Fire District will offer a disaster-preparedness session for residents at 6 p.m. May 3 at Town Hall, 20 Bridge St.

The one-hour session will provide residents with an overview of the importance of disaster preparedness. Residents will learn how to assemble an emergency-supplies kit, help people with disabilities and other needs plan for a disaster, and create a family emergency plan.

Lunch sites sought for low-income children

Beaufort County seeks about 50 sites to host lunch programs for low-income school children this summer.

The federally funded Summer Food Service Program provides meals to eligible children at no charge, according to a news release. Lunch sites are staffed by volunteers or minimum-wage employees and must pass health inspections.

Those interested must contact Beaufort County Parks & Leisure Services by Friday.

Club collects donations for migrant workers

The Exchange Club of Beaufort is collecting school supplies and toiletries for migrant workers.

Donations can be dropped off through May 11 at Beaufort Rentals in the Regions Bank building on Robert Smalls Parkway. Items sought include toothpaste, soap and shampoo, including unused hotel items.

St. Gregory to present 'Living Stations of the Cross'

St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton will hold a "Living Stations of the Cross" at 6 p.m. Friday.

The performance, which is free and open to the public, has a cast of more than 45 volunteers from the church's Hispanic Ministry, according to a news release.

Hilton Head High seeks outstanding alumni

Hilton Head Island High School seeks nominations for its Alumni Hall of Fame through April 30. The alumni selected will be presented with a plaque, and a second plaque will be displayed at the school.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the school website at or from the "Hilton Head High School Alumni Wall of Fame" Facebook page.
