A Hilton Head Island man who tried to chase down two men Saturday after he caught them breaking into his home later helped authorities identify one of them, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The homeowner identified 19-year-old Kareem Joseph Stevens of Hilton Head as one of two suspects believed to have broken into his Oakview Road home at about 11:45 p.m., according to a news release.
A second suspect, whom investigators have not identified, is still at large, the release said.
Stevens is charged with felony first-degree burglary and is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center.

The homeowner told deputies he was walking to a friend's house for a party when he saw a man dressed in black in his neighbor's backyard. He told deputies he was suspicious, so about 20 minutes later, he decided to go check on his home.
As he walked up to the home, he saw the same man in black he had seen earlier. He was carrying a flat-screen TV from his home, and another man, also wearing all-black clothing, was on the front porch, the release said.
The homeowner yelled, "Drop the TV!" and both men ran, leaving it behind, the incident report said. The homeowner tried to follow the men in his pickup truck before calling 911, according to the report.
When deputies arrived at the home, the owner's wife told them her husband had gone after the culprits. Deputies found him near Spanish Wells Road yelling at four men who investigators later determined were not involved in the robbery, the report said.
At about the same time, another deputy found a man matching the description of the robbers nearby and detained him. The homeowner identified him, according to the report.
All of the homeowner's property was recovered and no one was injured, the release said.
