Man wakes residents, steals wallets in Beaufort

Beaufort police responded to a report of a home invasion at the Cross Creek Apartment Homes on Ambrose Run early Sunday, where two people reported being robbed and struck with a pistol, Deputy Chief of Police Dale McDorman said in an email.

An unknown black male entered the residence while the occupants were asleep, woke them and demanded their wallets and cellphones. The victims said they were struck with a pistol, but no injuries were evident, McDorman added.

Officers searching the area saw a man wearing the same clothing as the victims had described. He fled but was arrested later Sunday on unrelated charges. He was identified as Curtis Delaney Jr., whose age and address were not available Monday.

Delaney was served warrants for armed robbery, kidnapping and burglary at the county Detention Center, McDorman said.

Police did not recover the stolen wallets or cellphones.
