Chattanooga placed four golfers in the top six spots, including first-round leader Emma de Groot, to claim an eight-stroke lead after Sunday's first round of the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship at Moss Creek Golf Club.
With a consistent 37 on the front and back nine, de Groot carded a 2-over-par 74 for a one-shot lead over a group of three players at 3-over. Six more players are tied at 4-over.
As a team, the Mocs shot 303, with de Groot joined in the top five by teammates Christine Wolf (75), Jordan Britt (77) and Marion Duvernay (77).
UNC-Greensboro sits at second place with a team score of 311, while College of Charleston is third at 313.

Appalachian State's Rumbidzai Masamvu and Elon's Martyna Mierzwa shot 3-over par 75 to equal Wolf in a three-way tie for second place.
Round two of the championship will begin at 8 a.m. today.
