In the 20 years before he opened his first consignment store, Reggie Boone honed his skills as a collector, scouring auctions and secondhand stores for unusual, beautiful and interesting items.
He sold many of his finds on eBay or used them to decorate his house.
But in the back of his mind, he always knew he eventually wanted to open his own store.
Last month, Boone did just that, starting Elements Vintage Consignment at 1304 Boundary St. with partner Daisy McLean.

The shop features mostly mid-century modern items, many of which are from Boone's collection, he said.
"We don't have much country or Victorian," Boone said. "A lot of it is more '50s and '60s era. ... We're really a store where you can come to get something to decorate your house."
Elements is filled with furniture, accessories and art, including pieces from local artists. It also sells handmade pottery from North Carolina and South Carolina and other goods. Noticeably missing are clothes, which Boone said he's not planning to offer now.
The store has taken in some consignments since opening, Boone said.
"We evaluate each item on its merit," he said.
Customers who want a peek at some of Elements inventory can view pictures of items on the store's Facebook page.
The store is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
