The body of an 84-year-old Hilton Head Island man was found in shallow water near a Skull Creek Marina dock by an employee there, according to Beaufort County Deputy Coroner David Ott.
Ott said the man's identity was being withheld pending the notification of family members. An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston; Ott said he expects autopsy results today.
The body was discovered at about 9:35 a.m. Sunday by an employee at the marina at 1 Waterway Lane in Hilton Head Plantation, Ott said.
Ott said he believes the man fell into the creek sometime late Saturday afternoon while he was either boarding or stepping off the sailboat where he lived.

"It appears he might have stumbled and fell off the dock," he said.
An employee, who went to check on the man when he did not appear at his usual time, saw the body from the dock and called 911, Ott said.
Town of Hilton Head Fire & Rescue Division crews and the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office responded.
