During a work shop, council members spoke with Riverview Director Alison Thomas, who said the school wanted to discuss pursuing Beaufort Elementary as a possible home.
The Beaufort County Board of Education voted last year to recommend a location in downtown Beaufort as the charter school's permanent site.
"We've been very diligent in trying to seek some downtown opportunities," Thomas said. "I think this one has the most potential to be mutually beneficial."
Beaufort Elementary can hold about 900 students, Thomas said. The facility currently houses about 600 to 700 students split between three different programs -- the elementary school, the Academy for Math, Engineering and Science and a special education program, Thomas said.
Although interested in the site, Riverview has not yet conducted a formal study, the school's board said Tuesday in a statement.
“The school has not evaluated the possibility of locating to the current Beaufort Elementary facility, however Riverview would welcome the opportunity to do so (as) long as it would be beneficial to all of the parties concerned,â€
