Port Royal gas station held up at gunpoint

A man with a handgun and wearing a bandana robbed a gas station in Port Royal at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, according to a police spokesman.

A clerk at the BP Smith Serv Oil Co. at 780B Parris Island Gateway described the robber as a black male, 6-foot-1, 180 to 190 pounds, Sgt. Andre Massey said Monday.

The clerk was alone when the man, wearing dark clothes and a dark bandana, demanded he get a bag and put cash from the register in it, Massey said. The clerk, who was not injured, said the robber ran toward the woods near Cypress Street.

A Beaufort County sheriff's canine unit was unable to find the robber.

Anyone with information should call the Port Royal Police Department at 843-986-2220 or Massey at 843-986-2231.
