A Bluffton man is accused of breaking into his neighbor's home and later falsely reporting a similar burglary in his own home to divert authorities, according to a Bluffton police news release.
Ricardo Reyes, 27, was charged Monday with felony, first-degree burglary and misdemeanor filing a false police report in connection with a Feb. 28 break-in, when goods valued at $2,500 were stolen from a home on Running Oak Drive.
Bluffton investigators found evidence Reyes was responsible for the break-in, the release said.
Police believe Reyes, who lives next door, also called police March 1 to report a similar robbery to throw authorities off his trail. Investigators recovered most of the stolen items and returned them to Reyes' neighbor, the release said.
