South Carolina will observe Severe Weather Awareness Week today through Saturday, according to a news release from the National Weather Service, the S.C. Emergency Management Division and the S.C. Broadcasters Association.
The event is intended to teach South Carolinians about severe-weather hazards and safety.
The annual statewide tornado drill will be Tuesday, with an alternate date of Thursday. The National Weather Service will issue a test tornado warning using the actual emergency alert system code for this drill. There will be no test watch.
The drill will be conducted at 9 a.m. Schools and other participants are encouraged to begin their drills at that time and to test their weather radios.
If they can't exercise their plans at the designated date and time, businesses and residents are advised to think about the location of the nearest shelter and review their emergency plans.
