Group awards $500,000 in grants to 57 area organizations

The Beaufort Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation has awarded $500,000 in grants to 57 nonprofit organizations in Beaufort, Jasper, Colleton and Hampton counties.

This marks the 13th year of grants from the organization, which has awarded $4.5 million since its inception, according to a news release.

Of the 57 nonprofit organizations that received awards, 18 received the final grant in a three-year grant cycle. The other 39 grantees received a one-year grant.


The grants were presented Feb. 18 at a reception that also included a screening of the top videos in the Beaufort Fund Nonprofit Video Competition.

The Colleton County Library was voted the favorite video of the previous Beaufort Fund grantees. The Independence Fund/Lt. Dan Weekend video was voted favorite among the general nonprofit organizations. Child Abuse Prevention Association took second place among Beaufort Fund grantees, and Hope Haven of the Lowcountry was voted the third favorite.

Grant recipients included ACCESS Network, Born to Read, Boys & Girls Club of the Lowcountry, Camp Wildwood, Child Abuse Prevention Association, Citizens Opposed to Domestic Abuse, Franciscan Center, Friends of Caroline Hospice, HELP of Beaufort, Hope Haven of the Lowcountry, Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry, Lowcountry Food Bank, Meals on Wheels for Bluffton and Hilton Head, Second Helpings, Thumbs Up, Volunteers in Medicine, Agape Family Life Center, Alzheimer's Family Services of Greater Beaufort, Arts Council of Beaufort County, Beaufort County Open Land Trust and University of South Carolina Beaufort: Beaufort Performing Arts.

Grants also were given to the Beaufort Women's Center, Bluffton Self Help, Camp Happy Days, Center for Heirs' Property Preservation, Collaborative Organization of Services for Youth, Community Services Organization of Beaufort County, Family Promise of Beaufort County, Good Neighbor Free Medical Clinic of Beaufort, Junior Achievement of Coastal S.C., Little Red Dog Foundation, LowCountry Legal Aid, Lowcountry Community Action Agency, Lowcountry Estuarium, Memory Matters, Mt. Pleasant AME Church, Nails in Hand, Neighborhood Outreach Connection, New Destiny Center, Pregnancy Center and Clinic of the Low Country, Programs for Exceptional People, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Senior Services of Beaufort County, Sheldon Township Community Support Partnership, Special Olympics S.C. Area 6, St. Vincent de Paul Society Outreach, Technical College of the Lowcountry Foundation and the Yemassee Revitalization Corp.
