Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority says a company seeking water samples from area residents is not affiliated with the utility.
No BJWSA employee will ask to enter your home unless you were notified before the visit, according to a utility news release Friday. BJWSA employees have an official truck, uniform and picture identification, the release said.
The individuals in question might be attempting to sell customers a water filtration system, the release said. BJWSA and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control test drinking water in certified laboratories. Additionally, BJWSA's water is considered relatively "soft." Purchasing a water filter is a personal choice, but is not necessary to receive safe drinking water from BJWSA.
If someone claims to be with BJWSA, residents can call BJWSA's customer service at 843-987-9200 for verification.
