A Virginia-based developer recently purchased 44 wooded lots in the Pinckney Retreat neighborhood, the site of a historic plantation, and plans to begin building homes soon starting in the mid-$300,000s.
The gated community off Parris Island Gateway sits along Battery Creek on land that once was the Retreat Plantation. It features a historic marsh-front tabby house built in 1736 by a French Huguenot, Jean de la Gaye, according to a news release.
East West Communities purchased 25 interior and 19 marsh-front lots, but only 20 homesites are currently for sale, according to the release.
The Richmond, Va., company was originally part of the Sea Pines Co., known for its work on Hilton Head Island, the release said.
