Hargray Communications, which provides Internet and e-mail service to much of Beaufort County, wrestled Monday with slowdowns and outages caused by the failure of a "core piece of equipment," a company official said.
Andrew Rein, Hargray's vice president of sales and marketing, couldn't speculate when the problem would be fixed, but said the company is putting all of its resources toward resolving it.
"We're all working on this problem -- the entire organization is focused on it," he said. "We're getting information every five or 10 minutes from our engineering crew."
Hargray's entire service area is being affected by problems that have varied from slow Internet speed to delayed e-mail, he said. Customers were notified of the issues Monday night, and Rein said the company would update them as soon as engineers know more.
