Beaufort County businessman Ed Jerue was honored Tuesday as an ambassador for economic development by the S.C. Department of Commerce and legislative leaders as part of South Carolina's 20th annual Industry Appreciation Week.
The ceremony at the Statehouse recognized 47 people from 46 counties for their efforts to bolster community and economic development activities in South Carolina, according to a Commerce Department news release.
Jerue and his wife started the Low Country Chair Co. in 2006 on St. Helena Island, employing local craftsmen who produce more than 700 pieces of furniture a year, the release said.
Peter Buonaiuto, co-founder of Yellow Marketing, received the honor for Jasper County.
