An 8,000-square-foot Family Dollar on St. Helena Island cleared a final hurdle Tuesday, and the developer said he hopes to be open for business by the middle of February.
Beaufort County's Northern Corridor Review Board voted 4-1 to approve small alterations to the building's design made during construction.
"I'm relieved," said developer Robert Sample.
Sample has been trying to build the store on Sea Island Parkway near The Corners community since 2008, navigating a series of zoning and design hurdles.

He said he has plans to bring Family Dollar stores to Bluffton, Port Royal and Laurel Bay.
"I'm ready to move on to the next store," Sample said.
