Celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King on Monday

Beaufort County residents can commemorate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. at a variety of events Monday.

Beaufort

  • The Beaufort County Ministerial Alliance will wrap up its annual observance with a parade and closing program in downtown Beaufort. The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Rodgers Street. The closing program begins at 2 p.m. in the University of South Carolina Beaufort's Performing Arts Center.

  • The Spring Hill AME Church in Sheldon will begin its parade at 11 a.m. at the church on Paige Point Road.
  • A service follows from noon to 12:30 p.m.

  • The Mount Sinai Baptist Church parade begins at 2 p.m. at the church and winds around Booker T. Washington Circle.
  • A service follows at 3 p.m.

    Bluffton

  • A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at Bluffton Town Hall. A memorial walk and parade begins at 2 p.m. followed by a cookout at 3 p.m. For details, call Dee Anderson at 843-263-8704 or Anne Cooke at 843-757-3417.
  • Hilton Head Island
  • A memorial march begins at 10 a.m. in the Hilton Head Island High School parking lot. The memorial program is at 11 a.m. in the high school's Visual and Performing Arts Center, where Nannette Pierson of the Sandalwood Community Food Pantry will speak.
