Schools, offices delay starts Tuesday

  • All state offices: two-hour delay
  • Beaufort County schools: two-hour delay
  • Jasper County schools: three-hour delay. Classes start at 10:30 a.m
  • Technical College of the Lowcountry (all campuses) will open at 10 a.m.
  • University of South Carolina Beaufort: classes begin at 10:30 a.m. Earlier classes are canceled.
  • Hilton Head Christian Academy: Students report at 9 a.m.
  • Sea Pines Montessori Academy: two-hour delay. Upper School will start at 10:15 a.m.; Lower School at 10:30.
  • Programs for Exceptional People on Hilton Head: two-hour delay
  • Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island: all non-essential personnel to report at 10 a.m.
  • TCL Commission meeting moved from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the MacLean Hall Boardroom.
  • Also, TCL organizers have rescheduled the presentation "Where Have All The Blue Crabs Gone." Michael Childress, assistant professor in Clemson University's biological sciences department, will speak tonight at 7 p.m. at MacLean Hall, 105 Reynolds St. in Beaufort. He will address the 30 percent drop in blue-crab landings during the past decade and the possibility of reversing that trend. He studies the crabs' ecology and behavior and creates models to forecast future populations. The presentation was originally scheduled for Monday, but organizers postponed it.
