Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity will conduct a family orientation meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at M.C. Riley Elementary School, 200 Burnt Church Road, Bluffton, for those who live or work in Beaufort or Jasper counties and are interested in learning how they might apply for a Habitat house.
To qualify for a Habitat home, applicants must go through an approval process, attend family workshops on preparing for home ownership and agree to provide "sweat equity," not only on the construction of their home but on homes for others. Owners make regular mortgage payments to Habitat to pay for their homes. Those funds are then used by Habitat to build future homes.
