Beaufort County sheriff's officers discovered an intoxicated woman sobbing at a gas station on Hilton Head Island after she had removed all the nozzles from the gas pumps and raised their levers, just after 1 a.m. Friday.
The woman told officers to take her home and tried to open the door of the patrol car. That's when the officers noticed the nozzles at the Pantry at 153 Arrow Road were off the pumps and that the woman was standing about 10 feet away from a fire extinguisher and a lighter on the ground.
When the officers asked the woman about the nozzles, lighter and fire extinguisher, she said she was "trying to get someone's attention."
The woman was arrested for public disorderly conduct. She was released on her own recognizance, according to the county jail log.
